ABUNDANTLY BLUE — Silk Scarf (45” x 45)
A visual hymn to the legacy of indigo — once called Blue Gold — and to the hands that shaped its journey.
Abundantly Blue bridges two worlds: the enslaved along Louisiana’s Mississippi River parishes — St. John the Baptist, St. Charles, St. James, and Plaquemines — who cultivated indigo in bondage, and the artisans of West Africa in Abeokuta, Ibadan, Oshogbo, and Kano, where indigo dyeing remains a sacred art and a language of spirit.
Each silk thread echoes that lineage — of women who stirred vats like altars, of men who toiled beneath the sun, of beauty pulled from sorrow.
In its hue lives both memory and becoming — a testament that even through suffering, we made something radiant.
